How does a solar panel work, how does a solar panel work?A solar panel is a device that uses sunlight to convert light energy into electricity. It consists of multiple solar cells, each made of semiconductor material.

  1.Absorption of light

When sunlight hits a solar panel, the photons interact with the semiconductor material in the solar panel. Here, the energy of photons is absorbed by electrons in the semiconductor material.

  2.Electron excitation

The absorbed photon energy causes the electrons in the semiconductor to enter an excited state and obtain higher energy. These excited electrons form electron-hole pairs, where the electrons are negatively charged and the holes are positively charged.

  3.Separation of charges

In the structure of a solar panel, two different semiconductor materials are connected together through an interface to form a p-n junction. This junction creates accumulated charges that separate the charges so that electrons and holes are concentrated in separate semiconductor regions.

  4.Generation of electric current

The accumulation of electrons and holes in different semiconductor regions creates a potential difference, creating a built-in electric field. This potential difference causes electrons and holes to move in the direction of the electric field, creating an electric current.

  Types of Solar Panels

There are many types of solar panels commonly found on the market today, each with its own specific working principles and applications.

  1.Monocrystalline silicon solar panels

Monocrystalline solar panels are made from single crystal silicon material. Its working principle is based on the lattice structure of single crystal silicon material, which has high conversion efficiency and stability.

  2.Polycrystalline silicon solar panels

Polycrystalline solar panels are made from polycrystalline silicon material. It works similarly to monocrystalline silicon solar panels, but is less expensive to manufacture.

  3.Thin film solar panels

Thin-film solar panels are made of thin-film materials, such as amorphous silicon, copper indium gallium selenide, etc. It enables flexible design and high production efficiency, but relatively low conversion efficiency.

A solar panel is a device that converts light energy into electricity.Through the absorption of light, the excitation of electrons, the separation of charges and the generation of electric current, solar panels can convert sunlight into usable electrical energy.Different types of solar panels have different working principles and characteristics. In order to meet different environmental and application requirements, people are constantly researching and improving solar panel technology.
